Biografi Miyamoto Musashi

Miyamoto Musashi, adalah seorang ahli pedang atau samurai dan ronin (samurai tak bertuan) yang sangat terkenal pada abad pertengahan di Jepang. Ia diperkirakan lahir pada sekitar tahun 1584 dan meninggal tahun 1645. Bertarung dan membunuh musuhnya pertamakali pada usia 13 tahun dan berlanjut sampai ia terkenal sebagi seorang samurai yang tidak terkalahkan di Jepang. Konon Musashi pernah bertempur melawan sekitar 50 samurai, dan pertempuran tersebut dimenangkan oleh Miyamoto Musashi dengan teknik dua pedangnya. Hingga saat ini, bekas pertempuran Musashi di Ichijoji dijadikan monumen oleh masyarakat Jepang.

Di masa penyepian mencari jati dir di gua Reigendo, ia menulis Go Rin No Sho, atau Buku Lima Cincin/Lima Unsur. Buku ini adalah buku seni perang yang berisi strategi perang dan metode duel. Namun oleh peneliti barat, buku ini dianggap rujukan untuk mengenal kejiwaan dan pola berpikir masyarakat Jepang. Buku ini menjadi klasik dan dijadikan rujukan oleh para siswa Kendo di Jepang.
